Young Professionals Donate $12,963 for Texas A&M – Central Texas Scholarships

On January 30, 2010 the Greater Killeen Young Professionals (GKYP) held a benefit concert to raise scholarship dollars for Texas A&M University – Central Texas (TAMU – CT) students. The concert was held at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, and featured 3 bands spread across several hours.

Due to the sponsor donations, ticket sales, and volunteer work, the GKYP has raised $12,963.03 for TAMU-CT scholarships. The proceeds will be given to the Friends of Texas A&M University- Central Texas to assist in their scholarship campaign. On Friday, February 26, the GKYP presented a check to the Friends of TAMU-CT.

Friends of TAMU-CT has been formed to raise $3 million dollars over three years. Every dollar raised will be given out in scholarships to students who enroll in Texas A&M University – Central Texas. Friends of TAMU-CT is a part of the Texas A&M University- Central Texas Foundation.

Major sponsors for the concert were Toyota of Killeen, Patriot Pontiac-GMC-Buick, First National Bank of Texas, Metroplex Health System, and Dynamic Designs.

The GKYP was formed in November of 2008 to provide area young professionals with opportunities for professional development, networking, and community service. The hope of the organization is that Killeen will become a magnet for the talent that will grow its future economy.
