The goal of the Bell County Committee for Economic Growth is to legalize the sale of all alcoholic beverages within the city limits of Killeen and Harker Heights. They accomplished the first step by delivering a petition with the names of 4,000 registered Killeen voters to the county. After validating the names, a proposition will be placed on the November 2, 2010 ballot.

This initiative is an investment in Killeen’s future economic development, and in passing the proposition voters will bring new businesses and increased tax revenues to the area.

Mr. Kaufman will be on hand to discuss this process, and the implications on the community.

The meeting will be held at the Workforce Solutions of Central Texas in the 1st floor board room. Lunch will be provided. The cost is free for members and $5 for guests and non-members.

Our speaker that day will be Dr. Ann Farris representing the Place Design Team of the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce.  Dr. Farris will discuss the importance of Killeen building a concept of “place”.  She will also speak about the upcoming downtown event “Embrace the Place”, which will be an evening of fun with food, drinks, and live music on July 9.

The Greater Killeen Young Professionals along with the Belton Young Professionals will host an Annual YP Field Day on Saturday June 26th out at Stillhouse Lake Park. The Field Day is open to any and all who want to attend. There will be games, prizes, food and LOTS of fun. This is an all age, everyone invited event to help garner attention to these incredible groups. We will have multiple team sport competitions including:

Volleyball

Ultimate Frisbee

Horseshoes

Watermelon Toss

Tug-O-War

The YP group that wins the most competitions will receive the coveted “I Survived YP Field Day” trophy which they will keep until next year’s event.

There will be activities for the kids also such as:

Kickball

Sack Races

Inflatable Playgrounds

Water Balloon Toss

And More!

The Young Professional’s will be serving free Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Drinks all day. Feel free to bring any food or beverages you like (No Glass Containers).

What: Regional Young Professionals Field Day

When: Saturday June 26th, 11 AM to 5 PM

Where: The Island Pavilion at Stillhouse Lake Park, be sure to tell the gate attendant you are with the GKYP at the pavilion so you won’t be charged to enter the park! The Island Pavilion is on the Marina side.

Who: Any and all who would like to attend

Cost: $5 per person, $10 per family. The YP’s will be serving free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, water and sodas all day.

Please bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and any food or beverages you may want (NO GLASS CONTAINERS)
